Howdy all! I thought the time had come to compile some kind of list of useful shortcuts, key commands, and tricks of the trade that we have learned about. Please add your own, and correct any of mine that are wrong or incomplete.F1 toggles between targeting yourself and your pet. F2 through F6 targets party members and their pets--essential for buffing, healing, and assisting in combat./assist command: targets and auto-combats the mob your main tank has targeted. Make a hotkey either specifically assisting a person--like /assist Taargudd, or have the key assist your current target--/assist %T. Essential in groups and raids.%T is the code for current target. Use it to make cool socials for incoming mobs: /gsay Ahoy, Mateys! %T on the starboard bow! Make cool socials for incoming mobs! It's nice to know just what's coming at you at high speed./tgb on: (Targeted Group Buff) casters should type this as soon as they get a cool group buff. Allows you to target a member of another group and buff that whole group without being a member yourself. Only needs to be typed once to stay on until you turn it off.Autorun key: numlock on keypad will keep you running without having to hold down the forward movement key. You can turn normally, and will keep running until numlock or the forward or backward move keys are hit.Make a hotbutton macro tied to movement to improve skills--sense heading and forage are the most obvious candidates, but sneak and others probably work too. Make a sense heading button in the skills tab of the actions window. Copy this button over to the hotbutton window. Go to options-keyboard-macros and find the hotbutton slot you used. The upper left slot is #1, upper right is #2, and so on. Tie that slot to one of your movement keys, so that skill is used every time you move. [not in game atm, so if this is wrong, please correct me]Learn to swim. Sitting in Paludal waiting for the casters to med? Go swimming. This skill is really handy in a lot of ways, as you will find. Just watch out for mean fish. Seriously.Practice spells on your pet or yourself to keep spell skills maxed. Make a social or hotbutton to cast a spell, then weight that key with something and go afk. Just remember that you CAN DoT yourself to death!Edit: Rumor has it that you can't nuke or DoT yourself to death while in PoK. So go for it.Practice combat skills on a friendly caster's pet in the arena. You won't lose xp when kitty whacks your flimsy arse, and the caster can go trade in the bazaar for awhile. EDIT: If you are hit with a very ugly DoT or other long-lasting ugly spell (Tash, etc), and it is WAY down your buff list (meaning you would have to cast Cancel Magic 12 times to get to it), simply click on all the buffs that are lined up ahead of the DoT. This will turn them off (which Cancel Magic would do anyway, just more slowly), leaving you free to cast CM on the bad slot. I used this on a 300-per-tick DoT that had just wiped my raid. Hit from behind a mob if you can. The beastie will always try to face the main tank or main taunter, so get behind it. Your attacks cannot be blocked, dodged, or riposted if done from behind!Don't pull before everyone is ready. Casters need to let the group know their mana status, and whether they are gtg or not. I know the tanks get bored waiting, but it's better than dying cuz your healer was out of mana. If party members are afk, don't pull unless they are out of combat range and off your escape route. Nothing worse then coming back from the bathroom to find yourself at 10 health...Tradeskilling quick tip-- Command (apple)-click picks up a single item from a stack. Shift-click picks up the whole stack.EDIT: Please please please use EQAtlas and EQMaps.com. There is no excuse for not going to these sites and printing out FREE maps of the zones you are interested in. Used in combination with /loc and sense heading, you will rarely be lost again. Use Allakhazam.com, and EQTraders.com. Find class-specific websites to learn about your role in a group. There is a ton of info out there, and some of it is even helpful!Tikka

Here's another thing:Bards have a mana song or two, so if casters need mana while medding, you can request this song. During down times, I sing a variety of songs, such as heal, mana or disease resist songs (they have the potential of removing or lessening the times of disease efects) I've even twined it in with my other songs during combat. It gives the casters a little edge. Also, if you have two bards in the group, the mana song stacks!

Edited post to include plea to use EQAtlas and EQMaps or any other map sites you find. I am far happier to help you recover your corpse or get you out of trouble if I know you didn't just pick a random zone and run blindly about in it until you were killed. I am here to help, but I am not here to drop everything and pull you out of a zone which, given a tiny bit of research on your part, would have told you maybe you shouldn't have gone there yet.A hint: if the stuff around the zone in cons dark blue or higher, you can bet the stuff further in is even higher level. Yes, this should be obvious, but I just want to make it clear that if you see cons like that at the zone line as a solo player, and still proceed deeper in, you are on your own. That being said, and before you write me off as a pissycat, I am willing to help out truly lost peeps a lot of the time. I have given detailed instructions over /tell or /gu channel to get folks into or out of camps I happen to know well, and I have (and will continue to) guided folks personally to certain camps or through particular zones. I just ask that you also assume some responsibility for your own whereabouts and use maps, build sense heading, and practice using /loc. Please]:)PS--sorry for the rantiness--I am cleaning my house today instead of playing. LOL
