((Warning, this could be said to contain spoilers if you haven't run the Spinner of Shadows quests in the harbor and what comes after.  I just wanted to right and bring myself back into the stories here, this is a solo story for now, but I will be adding some joinable content of my own for the homecoming of Praut and Verse and others soon!))

The others fled while Magnanamous stayed behind.  This is what he trained for, whether he liked it or not.  The horrors of Shavarath were child's play compared to what lay ahead.

The adventurers he had traveled with were ill prepared for the might of the demon drow that they had fought.  She had been imprisoned in Khyber for countless eons.  Demons no longer roamed Xen'drik with impunity.  The Gatekeepers helped ensure that.  Despite their efforts and the help of the Silver Flame itself, her spider kin and Hezrou warriers were able to thwart the wards that held them and tear open a rift in the very fabric of the universe into planes previously unknown.

Magnanamous did what any good rogue would do.  He hid.  Finding the deepest corner he could while still able to see he watched the Spinner of Shadows as she was called walk out into nothing and disappear.  He was not her concern anymore.  He couldn't hurt her, but he had many many friends and information.  A deadly combination.

He activated his sigil.  The Gatekeepers had sent him on this mission to gather information.  They had no idea how far behind events they were.  Members of The Twelve and The Gatekeepers appeared from nowhere as they teleported into the chambers.

From beyond the chambers was a hole that the demon had torn in the fabric of Eberron itself.  The Demonweb, as the Spinner of Shadows called it, lay beyond the hole.  Magnanamous didn't have the pay grade or the intelligence of the Archmages to figure that out, but he knew that it was bad business.  Strands of material started to cross the rift between worlds and take hold onto Eberron as the atmosphere rushed out of the room in a dull roar.

The Gatekeepers did not look pleased as several rushed to the whole and began casting enchantments.  The members of The Twelve looked around and simply nodded at each other.  Taking notes in their ever present books they conferred with a large Orc that seemed to be in charge.  Completing their conversation they teleported out of the area.

Magnanamous came out of his hiding spot and approached the Orc.  The Orc looked grim and distracted, but nodded his acknowledgement to Magnanamous who spoke, "Master, this is not what any of us expected.  We need more time, I see that as plain as anyone.  Allow me to enter this realm and discover its secrets for you.  I will find a way to make contact when I can."

The Orc nodded grimly at Magnanamous, "Go.  Send word soon.  We will do our best to hold the line and keep Eberron safe.  It is our sworn duty."  More of the Gatekeepers were teleporting in and setting up the area.  Barbarians, rangers and druids from the Eldeen Reaches poured into the area.  The warders conversed with each other casting all manners of enchantments to keep the area stable and keep the denizens of the next plane at bay.

Magnanamous could see that the situation was grim.  He didn't like his chances, but liked the chances of Stormreach and Xen'drik even less if this wasn't handled immediately.  The rest of the powers in the city already knew or would know soon enough.  He didn't have enough potions, not for a prolonged engagement.  He would have to make this quick.  Luckily he had made a name for himself assassinating devil lieutenants on the fields of Shavarath.  Surely this plane couldn't bring any worse to bear than the plane of eternal battle.

Magnanamous donned his hood and attempted to sooth his ring.  Its chattering voices were loud and confused and though they would help him see things he may not otherwise see, he needed them to be calm so that he could scout the area with speed and stealth.  He approached the spiderweb like strands connecting Eberron to the Demonweb.  The Gatekeepers at the base did not look happy, "It should be stable for now, but it will take our every effort to keep the Demonweb from tearing into Eberron as it has so many other worlds.  Go swiftly and safely and return to us with better tidings."

Peering at the strands he looked down into infinity and up into the same depths.  He tested the strand and then took his first fateful steps out into another plane of existence.  Crossing the strands as quickly as he could manage he found himself again on solid ground.  Barren and lifeless though as solid as he could hope for.  He looked back watching debris pour out of Eberron and into the infinity beyond.  It took a moment for him to calm his senses.  Being a drow himself he was infinitely more at home in the caverns than he ever would be with so much all around him.  Lights off in the distance he could only assume were stars like Siberys, but not the same that he had come to know in Stormreach.

Focusing on the ground and keeping his balance he was able to calm his nerves enough to continue.  The plane before him was made up of islands such as this all connected by this same kind of spidersilk.  No wonder they called it the Demonweb.  The Spinner of Shadows must have come from this plane originally.  Turning his back on the light and his home he moved deeper into the darkness.  Slowly observing each new sound and ever ready for combat.

The terrain wasn't much different from Shavarath, just less debris.  Bodies ensnared by webs and half eaten by creatures he could only imagine in his nightmares still littered the area, but it didn't contain the bladestorms, so he counted that as a plus.  Moving from island to island his movements became more sure and more swift.  His mind focused on his mission now.

The next island over was filled with a chittering the likes he had never heard before.  Breaking right he saw a monstrosity coming over the side of the island and looking around as though it could hear something.  From the island on the right an old man bearing a walking stave and a pipe called out to Magnanamous, "Best take care here friend, the denizens of the Demonweb are Lolth's servants and don't take kindly to interlopers like us."

He chuckled as light emanated from his staff and obliterated the demonic creature before them.  Motioning Magnanamous over he took another drag from his pipe.  The old man looked to be quite venerable with age, long white beard to match his pale features.  Pointed grey hat, hooked nose and a tattered scarf hang about his shoulders.  "I don't know why Lolth has broken through to thy world from the Demonweb, but should we not stop her both of our worlds will be imperiled."

Deeper in the DemonWeb the Spinner of Shadows communed with Lloth.  The elder mage named Elminster hailed from another world that Lloth originally warred with.  Splitting her attention was an otherwise unwise move, but she hoped to catch Eberron unaware and increase her strength to finally crush Elminster and the allies in his world.  One problem.  She didn't seem to know that the denizens of Xen'drick waged war on the eternal plane of battle and stopped demon forces at their source.  It wouldn't take long for them to muster similar might and stop her as well.

Magnanamous was just a scout.  Waging war was well known to him since the devil invasion several years ago, but he was not meant to stop Lloth or interfere, just gather information and report back to The Gatekeepers who are busily stabilizing the damage that Lloth's dark ritual caused.

Lloth and the Spinner of Shadows were busy casting another ritual using dragonshards that had been harvested by the Drow and Rakshasas both.  Elminster took this distraction to escape Lloth's vision and return to his world.  As he did so he took his mantle of protection with him.

Lloth and the Spinner of Shadows finished their ritual merging the two demonic entities into one.  As Magnanamous watched her changes unfold, she looked directly at him hiding in the shadows and grinned.  A bright light, brighter than the Angelic hosts of Shavarath engulfed him.

-----------------------------------

Mangus woke up in a cold sweat.  He's having the nightmares again.  For months nothing, but now more than ever he feels the earth quake beneath him and feels that something is wrong.  Not understanding who Magnanamous is, he carries on his locksmithing duties while trying not to discuss the dreams with anyone.  He always feels the hero, feels like he is the direct presence in these awesome dreams.  How could he?  He barely knows what magic is.  Artificers help his master with some requests, charging a modest bounty for their own profit, but he knows nothing of adventuring or magic or demons or "Lloth" or spiders at all, not spiders of that size at least.

Shaking the last sweat from his body he freshens up.  The dreams are getting worse and so is the call.  Mangus feels that he must travel to Stormreach, far from the home he's always known, but if it unlocks the secret to his nightmares maybe then he can live in peace and resume his calling as an apprentice locksmith.

Maybe then...

Mangus disembarked "The Golden Sun" after it's long journey from Sharn.  Looking around at the bustling city center that is Stormreach he feels instantly lost.  Mere weeks ago he was on Korvaire a simple locksmith with odd nightmares and nothing more.  His master was almost too understanding when Mangus told him that he needed to leave and see the world.

He didn't bother telling him about the nightmares or that a burning in his very soul directed him to the jungles of Xen'drick, but it was true all the same.  With his meagre possessions he left for Sharn to begin his long journey.  The closer the approach to Stormreach the more vivid and powerful his dreams became.  Only in the final days of their approach did the dreams change.

Instead of the horror of "his" demise as Magnanamous he now dreamed of the peace and tranquility of time spent with a woman.  Her dark black hair comparing with his close cut white locks.  She an elf from Aerenal, he a drow.  Though that's one of the many details that confused him.  Mangus is bald and hasn't had any hair since the accident.  Sure the names could be said to be similar, but they are different people.  So what are these dreams that compel him so? Why does he carry the memories of another.  Maybe she will know or maybe he'll spend the rest of his days in one of the Silver Flames' sanitariums.

The sights and smells struck him simultaneously.  Everywhere bustling dock workers loaded and unloaded air ships and sailing vessels.  The area smelled of the salt of the sea and the sweat of a thousand seamen.

His heart pulled him to the market area so he headed up the long flights of stairs along the boardwalk bordered cliffs.  Passing town guards and peasants he noticed something he hadn't seen since the Great War:  armored adventurers.  They seemed to almost outnumber the local common folk.  To and fro they traveled in their well kept shining plate and shields with marvelous standards.  Arcanists in flowing robes of every color of the rainbow.  Marvelous reds and yellows.  Royal purples and blues it was as though the parade of a festival, but everyone carried on as though it was just another day.

Pushing his way through the crowds, Mangus made his way first to the open air market and then to the Phoenix Tavern.  Inside off duty guards drank along side more adventuring types.  A pink warforged chirped and played a flute as it paraded back and forth playfully in the tavern.  White haired elves talked business secretly in the corner while across the central pit the tavern band tried to compete with the noise.  Mangus smelled beer and felt it's siren's call.  Moving to the bar he ordered a pint.  Finding a corner so he could quietly enjoy it.

There was no time to enjoy even the first sip as she entered the bar.  He froze, paralyzed at the sight of her.  How could she be real? Mangus had never been to Stormreach.  He had never seen her except in dreams and now here she was in the flesh.  This could hardly be possible.  Even his sharp mind struggled to comprehend, or perhaps because of his inability to rationalize this turn of events.

Mangus quietly and quickly drank down his beverage.  She seemed to pass through the bar unnoticed though her grace and elven features would have smitten anyone in a bar like this.  Passing from table to table as though she was looking for someone.  She passed over the foot bridge over the pit, circled around it and moved for the exit.

Mangus left his empty glass on the table with a few copper as he followed her out.  Darkness was coming and he didn't yet have a place to stay, but he needed to know her and find out why she was in his dreams.  Was she calling to him somehow or is he truly just crazy.  Not only did he need these answers but he needed to quickly figure out how to ask his questions without having himself committed at the mention of it.

She passed through the open market effortlessly as though the crowds made space for her.  Mangus followed.  He bumped into several shoppers, so focused on not losing sight of her that he paid no attention to their surroundings as he followed her into a dark alleyway.

Waking from his near trance like focus he blinked in the darkness his senses returned to him and he wondered if it had been another dream as he noticed he was alone in the alley.  His eyes and hearing adjusted to the dark.

A cloaked figure dropped from the low roof of an adjacent shop behind Mangus.  The figure announced boldly, "You're in Syndicate territory and there's a toll to leave here:  your loot or your life."

Mangus could hear plainly that the figure was a brutish male and standing just behind him.  He heard the thug unsheath a blade and take another step as the thug breathed deep in preparation for what was likely to be another compelling ultimatum, Mangus flicked open a switch on his belt which opened to reveal the tools of his previous employment.

From the open compartment he drew out a metal file and a hammer and spun in one movement.  Taking the cloaked figure unawares and unready to defend themselves he brought the small hammer down on the cloaked figures head and stuck deep with the file into the thug's chest.

A murmuring spat of disbelief was the only response the thug could manage before he hit the street with a dry sounding thud.  From above Mangus another attacker loosed an arrow.  Mangus was able to twist his body and tuck his shoulder avoiding the arrow as two sword wielding thugs dropped into the street from the same low rooftop.

Moving to close the distance, Mangus slashed with the file at the throat of one of the attackers, then spun and brought his hammer down on the crown of the skull of the other.  The pair fell over in unison never even able to finish their attack.

Mangus raised the file to point it at the archer, but could only see his feet and hear the scurrying footsteps of his retreat.  Behind him he heard a woman's voice, "Well done Magnanamous."

Overwhelmed he fell to his knees and panted.  Chest heaving up and down with each breath.  What was he that he could cause such destruction with craftsmen's tools?  Who is this elf and why did she call him Magnanamous?
