Once upon a time there was a warforged, but it was unlike any other of its kind. This was a gentler, kinder warforged.
It would sing songs and give halfling children rides on its large metal shoulders. It would dance and play. People were happy around this warforged, and it was happy to be around them.

But a dark shadow was not happy. It hated this warforged and was jealous of its songs. It despised the laughter of the children who would ride upon the warforged's shoulders and hated even more the happiness it shared with its friends. So the dark shadow plotted and schemed and one by one it did gobble up all of the warforged's friends.

Soon the happy warforged was no longer happy, for it had no friends left to sing too. The warforged, so sad and alone, cried a single crystal tear of deepest darkest blue.
The dark shadow saw the warforged cry and cackled knowing it had won, and that the warforged was surely defeated. The shadow then gobbled up the warforged and cast darkness over the land.

It was then that the Gods did take notice. Without the warforged there was no songs or the happy laughter from halfling children riding on top of its large metal shoulders. Wanting the songs back they did strike down the dark shadow and with one solid stroke they split the shadows belly open and the warforged and all of the warforged friends did tumble out. 

Before they could sing and dance in joy however, the shadow did make one last attempt and curled itself up inside the warforged, turning the warforged's warm heart into cold stone.

Though the others did sing and dance, the warforged did not and still without it's song the Gods where saddened. So they gathered the crystal tear that the warforged had cried and created from it another in hopes that the warforged at seeing its reflection would one day remember it's songs and would once more share those songs with them and it's friends.

That day never came, and that warforged grew colder, till its reflection no longer looked like it, and it no longer looked like its reflection.
