I have been hangin round here, posting my lil stories and RP'in with ya guys for quite some time. And I just wondered about a little norm that seems to have been here as long as I have, there seems to be an unwritten rule that nobody is to comment in other people's threads in You Character's Stories forum. If you do get any comments, sometimes rarely you get a little note in the shoutbox or in game.

I understand some ideals behind the practice, not wanting to clog up reading if the story is seperated into multiple posts, and the don't say anything if you can't say anything nice, but I for one would like at least a little feedback now and then, even if it was a quick 'nice idea' or 'nice read' heck even a 'liked your other story better, finish it instead of starting this!' Wouldn't be terrible.

I dunno, maybe I'm crazy, but just some thoughts, and if it isn't treading on toes too much, will lead by example and start posting my thoughts on other people's stories.

I always read them but leave them alone. If I want to comment on it, I usually do it in-game to the person, OOC. Reasoning for me is that I see the "Your Character's Stories" section as like a bit of a library. People put their stories there to be read by others, and (to me!) leaving a note is like scrawling a note into a library book. It's a bit awkward and can sometimes break the immersion of a good read.

Not saying comments aren't appreciated by others or myself, or that it's bad. Just that I don't do it because I don't want to intrude on anything. Shoutbox and stuff gets me the same response, but doesn't leave a lasting post. (And, well, for my own stories, I would delete any posts with feedback. I love feedback via PM or whatever, but I don't want to keep it in my thread, since it could confuse or distract.)
I'm sure I should be embarrassed but I'm not.
I'm sure I should feel stupid but I'm hot.
I'm gonna grab my brush and paint the town.

I felt the same way when I first started writing on here, Sunks. I'm kind of more with Der on it now though. A lot of us will add to the thread as we go, and I think it keeps it cleaner. We could always start a kudos thread, I suppose, where we could leave comments on the current stories that would be lasting, not just in the shoutbox.

Perhaps one of the admins could create a sticky thread called "Comments on character stories" or something similar?  Then people could post in there if they have something to say about a particular piece of writing, and it wouldn't get lost among the stories if there were no comments for a while.

Admittedly it does mean that comments about various stories would all be jumbled together, but to be honest I would rather see this than have a multi-post story disrupted by comments.  If anyone would particularly welcome comments directly after one of their posts, they could always say so at the end.  But it would certainly be cleaner to have a separate thread for it - shouts are all well and good, but if someone doesn't log in for a day or two (sometimes an hour or two...! ) then any shout commending their writing is likely to have disappeared off the bottom of the box...

OK, admins, please don't be mad at me for asking, because I'm totally ignorant on this one.  Is it impossible to add a subforum for comments?  I.e. Your Character's Story would be next to a subforum called Your Character's Story (Comment Threads)?  Then when someone wanted to discuss a story, they could start a thread in the comments subforum discussing it and not clutter up either the story thread itself or the story forum.

Then if someone wants to initiate a fuller discussion of mechanics or a character's motivations in a story, there's room for it.

A sub forum or sticky thread can be made if people are interested in one. Not a problem at all. Heck I'll go make it right now.
