Order of the Sword & Rose
Points moves up to the captain and borrows an object from him. He places it in his ear and looks up taking in his friends before him. He smiles and spreads his arms to include everyone.
“My friends…” he pauses and lowers his head a moment. Raising it again with an apologetic smirk, “No… that is not true. My family… for each and every one of you has joined my family. The Fellowship took in this orphan as it did each of you. Those of you joining us on this trip, Fellowship or no are joined in our circle. We are no longer our separate lives going our own way. Like this vessel we travel on and in we are heading somewhere together. To glorious purpose we have come seeking fun,” Points looks at Nklos and nods “…adventure,” more nodding at Zoltando and others “or simply the warmth of companionship.” Points gestures to the dripping Lyrick and his windbreak Deriaz.
“Many of you question my sanity and purpose in this trip. I cannot blame you for the premise itself is born of desperation.” Points looks at Valianna and Tyrael. “Recently much ill has come to us. Out of it… the deaths of many of our friends and family, and much pain. It has darkened this world for me. I have seen those I care for callously treated, tortured and even butchered only to hurt me. When I tried to separate myself from you, to save you the… pain of knowing me… you…” Points chokes up a little. Straightening he again looks Jaggie, Zolt, and others in the eye, moisture threatening.
“You refused to let me go. Me, the orphan bastard… the rogue, accused murderer, fugitive from justice. You stood up beside me; you refused to let me be alone. You helped me realize that WE are more than this body. We are together in this and that no one of us may be able to stand alone but together we ARE a force to be reckoned with.”
Points smiles and again sweeps the crowd. “You have made me, the loner, the orphan, the man alone, one of your family and I have made you mine. Deny it if you must but you know it to be true.”
“This vessel carries the name ‘Thastolia’. It is elvish, meaning family, but she is something more than that. She is a tie, a bond. We are part of her and she is part of us. I will tell her story over dinner this eve. Treat her as your sister… your mother or kindly old aunt, but know that she is a lovely lady and she is watching out for you. Despite this, she does have her secrets and some of them are dangerous.”
“I ask you to respect her and the working areas of the ship. The crew is here to serve but they are family as well. Treat them as such. Please stay out of the holds unless you have business there and then in the company of the ship’s crew. Please respect their quarters as you would wish them to, yours. I will gladly show you around before the evening meal, for any who would like the tour. There is one area that I would like you to avoid. I know this one restriction will tempt several to seek it out, but please, I urge your patience. It is a thick, yellow painted door, simply labeled ‘Restricted’. Do not go there unaccompanied.”
“Within resides part of the ‘assurances’ I purchased for this craft to keep us safe. I will show the space on the tour while its denizens are out…”
“I ramble… sorry, we are gathered as a family… restrictions, tour… ah yes, the mission…” He pauses here to examine faces. Seeing curiosity, confusion and outright anger on some faces he continues. “I am trying to create a better understanding between the peoples of Eberron and a better future for us and our… fellows. Yes, there is danger here. Yes, this could end badly. However a comet could fall and wipe Stormreach out while we are gone. This is not a safe world. The only way it ever will be is if WE do something about it. I tried disappearing, hiding in my hole waiting for the world to pass over. That got my friends, my daughter and my Saeresi killed and taken from me.”
“NO MORE! I will no longer sit by and watch as the worlds plot our fate. No more will I watch as the Coin Lords, the Twelve or another other force on Eberron dictates how we are to live or die! Today, right now WE choose. WE decide. WE act for a better future. There are numerous foes out there plotting our demise. We cannot stop them all. We cannot face them alone. We can however, choose our battles, choose our allies even, gods help us, choose our fates.”
Looking more intently at those gathered before him. “Today, I choose to sail this vessel to Aerenal, to start the process that will either gather us allies or lay bear their plots against us. Today, WE go and say to this world, NO MORE do YOU choose for me.”
Points stops and points at the deck. “There is a line. It is symbolic. In each of our hearts, there is one as well. I cannot predict the future. One thing is for certain, we will all die. I tell you that the thing that really matters is not how we die, but how we live! I live today and all of the tomorrows that I have in service, to you, to life and to Eberron that there might be a future for our progeny. Decide now which side of the heartline you are on. As for me and my house… we will serve… LIFE!”
He pauses and smiles on Valianna and Tyrael. “In a moment, the Thastolia will be departing the tower. You might want to man the rails as we go. The view is quite extraordinary… I will be around for questions after I see to my wife and son.” Turning and handing the device back to Captain Cirrus those straining at a distance might hear “She’s all yours, sir. Depart when you are ready…”
Points moves towards Valianna and Tyrael, oddly his stride seems bigger. The smile though has never been…
