Order of the Sword & Rose
Craning her neck to look back at the woman who was aiding her, Aurel winced as her leg moved. A sigh of relief crossed her lips as the gentle healing energies of the spell helped to slow the fresh bleeding down to a crawl, she withdrew her leg from the water, the rest of her body still slumped to the sand. She kept it crooked at the knee, to keep it off the sand. Aurel took a deep ragged breath as the pain eased somewhat. Turning her head again, she examined the woman, her emerald eyes intent as she studied her features. She lifted one hand to brush the sand and her sweat soaked russet hair from her face. “I thank you, stranger. Most would have taken the opportunity to finish me where I lay, I owe you a debt.”
She waved at the hyena that was watching the woman with curiosity, and the animal stood up and trotted off into the brush, turning to start a circuit around the two women. Aurel glanced to the cat, giving the animal the same once over she gave her mistress and then struggled to a better position in which to converse, wincing as her leg protested the sudden movements.::
::Muttered to herself, “Someone may regret that choice later.” And shakes her head, frowning at her own actions, she was acting like a spoiled child. Nodding her head towards the small pot, “I would appreciate the aid. I didn’t expect the wound to go septic, and by the time it did.. I was too far out in the wilderness to manage a safe return.” Glances at the hyena skulking it the shadows of the bushes.
Nods at Mirae’s words about the bandages, “I tend to stretch every supply I have til it is either falling apart or useless.” Rolls up the sodden cloth and then squeezes to remove all the moisture, she drops it into the small clay pot, along with the horsehair brush. “I will have to cleanse this whole lot.” She pulled a piece of oiled leather out of her backpack and put it over the top of the pot, and tied it into place with a leather thong, then stuffed the whole thing into her bag. Then she folded the blanket and handed it back to Mirae along with the cloak. “Thank you again.”
::Aurel shook her head, “Nay, she needs to return to her clan, she would not do well in the civilized environment and I fear she might just get killed by some ignorant individual.” She touches her right ear, the ear stud, etched with a pair of raised black antlers silhouetted against the silver. Whispering a few words, she makes eye contact with the hyena, a strange cackling laugh echoing from her lips. The hyenas nods once to the russet haired woman and then without a look back trots up away from the beach, heading deeper inland. “She will be fine, her pack suffered a few losses when it ambushed me, so she will help breed them strong again.” Watches the animal vanish into the wilderness with a fond gaze, “She is strong.. they will welcome her back easily”
::Using Mirae’s help more than she liked, Aurel leaned on the human woman and they both made their way east towards a faint trail. Aurel started to wish she hadn’t dismissed the hyena back to the wild, but she knew it was for the best. Glancing down her leg, she frowned slightly as the bandages darkened, the shiver in her thigh sending lancing pains up into her torso. That was it.. she had poisoning of the blood, she needed to get to a skilled healer soon. After about 200 yards, she was soaked in sweat, but she refused the offers of M irae to carry her. Trying to keep her breath steady, she glanced at the sun, then looked at the trees near by. At this pace, they would reach the settlement by dark, just when it was the most dangerous.
Sighing, she brushed her sweat soaked hair out of her face and continued onward, almost hoping the sour wound would claim her life before she reached the semi civilized cove.::
