The previous night's mind magic, still ached in Intayazz's head. Though not as seriously as the night before, it was enough to distract him while on patrol. After a couple hours raising concern with his men, he decides to head back to his room, in hopes of sleeping it off.
Laying in his bed roll, at the Phoenix, he listens to the soft humming coming from the young halfling who now uses his bed. He had found it odd the first night, but also soothing. Wondering what the boy is singing, Intayazz closes his eyes, hoping allowing his body to relax into the floor, as best he could. Though not exactly sleeping, he lays still for a few hours, mind wandering with thoughts.
Two hours before dawn, banging erupts on his door. Intayazz rises immediately, a knife drawn. He notices Blinten had done the same, eyes wide in shock. A moment later, a voice calls throught.
"Sir? Lieutenant? You need to come see this. You need to come see it now."
Intayazz recognizes the voice as one of his men. He opens to door to a private named Eackard.
"Sir, sorry to disturb you, but we need you outside."
Motioning for Blinten to remain in the room. Intayazz follows the guard. He makes his way to the front of the tavern. Exiting the building, he notices several from his watch gathered. The target of their interest, a form covered in a cloak. Only fifteen feet in front of the tavern door.
Intayazz knew what would be under it. It would be a body. It would be marked and mutilated as the other had been. He walks over, and pulls back the cloak. This body isn't a human female, as the others had been. It is a halfling male. Older and darker skin than the other two. Intayazz replaces the cloak. The cutting and burning was the same. But all the other similarities were not evident.
This wasn't a human.
This wasn't a woman.
This meant he knew nothing of why these victims were chosen.
This meant he knew that no one was safe.
And, due to the placement of the body, he could no longer deny that someone was placing the bodies for him.
"Find me a mage, now. And I don't care what time it is. Knock down the gates to the Twelve if you have to."
He looks up at the sky. Though still some time until dawn, people would be passing through shortly.
"And bring away the body for examination. Then continue your patrols."
His soldiers quickly moved to his words.
Another long day had just begun.
