Over the last week we have had someone spoofing posts on public forums from our officers.  They have tried to turn away applicants, to cause friction in the guild with new applicants and to make the guild (especially us officers) look like a bunch of jerks.   The spoofs have been done very well - with copied sigs and avatars.

So far, they have managed to spoof posts from 3 different officers - about a half dozen times.  We have been deleting the content and blocking sigs and avatars to make it obvious the posts are fake (we have not deleted some of the posts because we want examples).  But still, the need to keep constant watch on the site is putting us on edge, to say the least.

Whomever is doing this has also managed to take over at least one officer's mailbox to send and receive mails - that they have used to try to further sow dissention.

They are using new IDs to create the posts and not registering on the site, so we cannot pick up the usernames.  This is not a matter of anyone's actual GP account being hacked, as the officers who have been spoofed can all still make their own posts - and the spoofs are not actually using their IDs anyway.

We have a list of the IDs and have placed a ticket with GP.  However, any constructive advice that anyone has for this problem would be GREATLY appreciated.

Try making your forums readable by only associates or members might help.

We have 4 tiers of access for our forums: public, members only, officers only, and super-admins only.  The problem is occurring on the public forums - on the ones for applications and public raiding info (used for coordinating with allied guilds and providing general raiding info to applicants).  If we make these public forums members-only, no-one could apply.  Hence, this is not a solution.

if you are having problems with the same names add them to you 'banned user' lists. if you ban their account from your each time (assuming it is a random person not a member of your guild) then they will eventually get bored and give up

Member admin>
Banned Users>

enter the user name there and save it.

regarding the posts from officer accounts, get your officers to make new logins and ban the old ones

 The first thing I would do, is make the page member only access. Secondly, you can also make the forums password protected. You might consider to inform all of the members to ignore any and all posts made in the public posts, or deleting the public posts option all together! And as replied by another use the ban list!
  As players come and go in our guilds; those that left us are more than likely bitter, that they are no longer there! I'm sure it's not the admins fault, so take a close look at the jerks who left the guild!
