Hello, I am the administrator of Alchemists guild. I am also helping someone with their page and tryingto add a .wav file. The problem is this... I can add the music to the page, I am very handy with HTML codes, but not too handy with java-script. Now I looked at the view source. and thru trial and error. I cannot figure out how to stop the page(the background page to which i added the music) from reloading. There must be a code, but looking for it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Everytime my viewers click a tab or link, the entire page reloads.

Can this be stopped?? and or does anyone know how to add the music on the page without the music reloading everytime the page does? Help me out by e-mailing me at: hallsgoddess@yahoo.com or sending me a message in the guilds or this forum.

Thanks in advance for your help...

If I understand you correctly.

You're saying, I don;t want the music sound to load-up everytime I visit the page it's set for?

I think that will require a cookie file being set.  It's maybe an idea that needs to go into the Feature request forums.  I.e. Admin being able to set music playback to 1 loop (etc) per user session etc.

I think he's talking about the same problem I have.

I put our Creed music on the same page as our Guild Charter.  Everything works great, except for one minor problem.

Everytime they click a link in the “library” content box, or refresh the page manually or any number of things, the music starts over.

Is there a way to get the music to start playing and continue play until they click a link at which point it stops, or at the very least just keeps playing, rather than starting over when it's in the middle, and doing it every time you click on something?

Really the only way to do that would be by adding a frameset with two frames: a frame for the page itself, and a frame for the music code all by itself.  When they move from page to page, only the content in the frame containing the page would change, while the music in its own frame would continue playing.

The problem with doing this is, they wouldn't be able to bookmark individual pages on the site.

hmmmm, say this was done.

Would it be possible to have a way to enable/disable this feature per page? Main page that is, the page you get when you click on one of the default buttons, like Forums, or Chat etc...

Cause then people would be able to bookmark say the Main page of the site, the Forums page, but not the Mail page for example because Mail would be the one with the music.

Hmm, get what I'm saying?

Yep, it'd be possible, but probably bad mojo.  Here's the thing -- if you add it to a forums page or other page containing content that people might do navigating and bookmarking in, and they can't bookmark a topic, the support tickets come to us.  We could add a FAQ entry, but people rarely read those, so... I'd be really hesitant about adding it.

I use javascript to pop up a window and stream music from that. If you google for javascript popup you will find quite a few examples.

See http://www.veteranus.net for an example.

Thanks for the link Orkhammer, I'll check it out.  I'm still new to all of this, so I'm not sure what exactly it will do, but should be interesting to experiment with

That's a really good point Aaron.  The last thing we'd want is you to be flooded with Support tickets.  (I doubt you get any from my guild, they probably don't even know where to look for the support link.  Most can barely find the Forums   )

Hmmm.  Well, it's good to know that it IS possible.  Trying to think of possible other workarounds.  I only have the main page saved as a bookmark.  I navigate from there.  So it's really hard for me to envision having other sections of the webpage bookmarked the way normal people probably do

Well, it's like after midnight here and I'm drawing a blank right now.  I'll have to ponder this more and see if I can come up with other possible scenarios that might make this doable.

Thanks for the info Aaron

For people who don't have a pop-up blocker, or for those who allow pop-ups on your site, the thing Orkhammer suggested should work great.
