I'm running with the custom CSS. I have the colors set for a:link, a:visited, a:focus, a:hover, and a:active. I have a dark background so my links are white and gold. The problem is, when typing out a link in the text editor, which has a white background, the link will blend in.

Is there a way to make forums use a different color scheme for the links then the rest of the website?

Or if not, is there a way that I can alter the default white background of the editor with a different color or maybe the background image I use in the message area?

Hi Everdark!

I found out that you can add some CSS to fix the link CSS, the only problem is that you can only change the link CSS. The editor window is actually an iframe and you can't change anything inside of it due to limitations set for security reasons. But add and modify the CSS below and you shouldn't have to worry about your text not being visible in the editor. Change the code in blue and green however you want.
.RadEContentBordered a:link {color: #0000ff; text-decoration: none;}
.RadEContentBordered a:hover {color: #8000ff; text-decoration: underline;}
.RadEContentBordered a:visited {color: #009090; text-decoration: none;}
.RadEContentBordered a:active {color: #6e6efc; text-decoration: none;}

A little update:

Using an idea from something I found in your post about hiding the Character listing line at the bottom of posts, I added this to my CSS to make the links default differently in a forum post:

    .MessageBodyCell1 a:link {color: #a52a2a;}
    .MessageBodyCell1 a:visited {color: #a52a2a;}
    .MessageBodyCell1 a:focus {color: #ffffcc; background-color: #0099ff;}
    .MessageBodyCell1 a:hover {color: #a52a2a; text-decoration: underline;}
    .MessageBodyCell1 a:active {color: #a52a2a;}

I added that in conjunction with your other code which I think makes things easier for those with dark backgrounds on their site to give a little more color flexibility. You can customize the color scheme more to your liking. Also, if the person changes the color of the link in the thread, it will go by their color instead.

Note: This will also change your Character Listing colors if you have them visible, since they are links.
