Upcomming changes look good.  I agree with you and personally don't believe the right to remove that bar for everyone in the guild should be included as an option.  Yes you can CSS it out if you REALLY hate it. but I think that decision should be left up to the user/members.  Once the added functionality is in (which sounds awesome by the way) maybe add the option for the USER to turn it off IN the bar, where it's easily accessable.

Regardles of whether you're paying or you think it messes with the mojo of your design, the fact of the matter is, it sounds like its going to be an awesome tool. If you don't like the look of it your self, hide it for your self, and you never have to see it again.  After a few days you won't even remember it's there, and your users who do enjoy the functionality can continue to use it.

As others have stated, if you think its "ugly" then work it into your site. Re-design it.  CSS coding and custom HTML could easily make that bar work with the flow of any existing design.

Anyhow.  Aaron, keep up the great work you do here.

V, take a few deep breaths and calm the eff down.  Seriously, even though you're paying for your site it's still a HELL of a lot cheaper than other solutions out there with, in some cases, more functionality. The amount of fuctionality and PERSONAL support that you are receiving is very much worth the limited cost. It's time to grow up and drop the self entitlement act.
