Greetings....

It's been almost 2 years since I have played an MMO and been on Guild Portal.  Well, our old guild (Los Whappos) who used to be a spotlight guild, has returned and playing a new game "SWTOR".

I am having trouble figuring out the new system and can't seem to get my old layout to work correctly within the new GP design system.  I think the old system was much easier to understand and use.

Can someone please take a look at my site < loswhappos.guildportal.com > and let me know what I am doing wrong. The Content boxes where the title is doesn't want to show the background image I have set for it.  Also the boxes don't seem to line up, yet they are the same graphics I used before.

I noticed in Firefox, the images line up, but not in IE?, But the content box background image doesn't show up in either browser?

The content boxes top background image (behind the box titles) is supposed to be 1px shorter to show the light background through as though it was a line seperating the content box text and the content in the box.  So that is supposed to have a 1px difference, but the top boxes on the left/right have a few pixel gap.

Also, any changes I make to my <Profile> don't stick?

Any help would be greatly apprciated.  Look forward to using GP again and reviving our guild.

Let me hunt down Aaron for this question and the other one you posted since he knows best the changes he made in the last years.

Thank you. I am holding off going live to our members until I can get a few things ironed out.

Welcome back!

The title background was never really meant to be something that was tiled -- it was meant to give designers a 159 pixel wide area to make something to display behind the title that was different from the rest of the box upper background.  However, since I've seen a few sites lately where that seems to be a point of confusion, I'll go ahead and make repeating horizontally the default behavior. In the interim, I went ahead and added "background-repeat: repeat-x !important" to the class in your custom css additions to standard, so it looks good now.

As for the gap -- that's caused by the text in the title. The recommended height for the top images (all of them) is 29, which will cover most normal font sizing. Yours are 20 pixels high, and so the text in the titles is pushing the top area down, causing the gap.

What I'm going to do, also as part of Friday's update, is add a class to the element that holds the top row of images and the title text for the widget, so that a couple things can be done to force the size of it and all of the images it contains down to 18px, eliminating the gap. Testing locally, it looks pretty good on your site. I've already added some custom CSS to your site so that as soon as the change goes live, you won't have to touch a thing.

Here's what I added to your custom CSS additions to standard:

.ContentBoxTitleNoBackground
{
    font-size: .9em !important;
    background-repeat: repeat-x !important;
}
.cBox-Header, .cBox-Header *
{
    height: 18px !important;
}

cBox-Header is the new class that I added (it won't do anything till Friday).

Hi Aaron

It's great to be back on GP. Thank you so much for your help, I thought I was loosing my mind.

Last question, any idea why when I attempt to make profile changes, such as update my profile signature text to reflect the new game. After I save the changes they don't stick, but revert to the old info.

Thanks again and good to be back amung the gaming.

Yes, my PC has Windows XP, IE8.  I can't install any newer version of IE in this version of Windows.  I won't upgrade to Vista/7 as most of the development software I use doen't work well in the new OS's.  Microsoft has created a massive mess with Vista/7.

I know what you mean. For us, their biggest mess so far has been Visual Studio 2010. Thankfully we waited until SP1 before even thinking about it, and were saved by keeping track of their forums, where many, many developers were screaming their lungs out about how bad it was.

Anyway, I'll throw my IE 9 into IE 8 rendering mode and see if I can't reproduce the problem.

Okay, that didn't do it, still can't make it happen for me. However, there's an AJAX loading panel wrapping pretty much all of that page, and this wouldn't be the first time I've seen those cause non-reproducible problems. What I'm going to do is get rid of that and let the form do normal postbacks... That should clear it up for you.

This is happening in the general settings right? The first screen to open up when you click profile?
