Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to
this post
.

Signup Status Color v5
by Mottie
Description
This mod will add CSS classes to the character status, so you can set the color yourself with the CSS and the script will do the rest. Within the script, you can set it to just color the Status column or the entire row. This is what it will look like:
*Note: this is an old screenshot, but the code still works

As far back as
four years ago
, diverkiwi asked for this ability:
I would love to move posts into new or existing threads.
Like when people start a new topic instead of commenting on the original one.
We frequently have members that post messages in the wrong thread or get so off topic that their posts should be moved to a new thread. Most of the many forums I participate in allow admins the ability to pluck a message post from one thread and move it into a new thread or a different one.
One of the biggest benefits of a guild website is the ability to communicate in the forums. As a website admin, it's important to me to insure they are well maintained. There are many forum features common to other sites that just don't exist here and this is one of them.
I know you are working on some long term plan for the forums (full text searches, etc.), Aaron, but in the mean time, please add this useful feature.

I've only been asked about this one time in six months but I suppose on more active forums misplaced posts could be a headache.
Until a post move feature is added I would just "quote" the post, copy the quoted section with the markup, make a reply in the appropriate/new thread, Cntrl+V the quoted text and go about my business. If your members are persnickity, add (Edit: moved from that thread to this thread because of blah blah blah).

I appreciate the suggestion and have done that on occasion. It's pretty inelegant, though. When the person goes looking for their post, they don't find it anymore because it's now
my
post. Also, if they subscribed to their thread, that subscription goes away.
To be honest, this is only ONE problem with the forums. GuildPortal members (myself included) have been asking for a forum update for
years
. Many sites I am a member of use vbulletin forums. Technology continues to advance and I, plus many others, have come to expect more out of our forums:
Full text search, not just titles.
Ability to search by tag, author, date, etc.
A link to go from the post you're reading to the next unread post.
A button in the last post column (when viewing forums) to jump to that last post

Heh, I hear you. You can add to the list:
Mark a new thread as "read" when I made the first and so far only post in it.
Mark a thread as having new posts in it, with a link to the first new post in it rather then display a link to each and every new post in it.
If the above can't be done, mark the remainder of the posts in a thread as "read" when I've viewed the first new unread post in a thread.
Editing this post reminded me of another issue, Site Admins should not have to wait ten seconds to edit a post they just edited.
Cheers, Cogs

Can Aaron or Sandy reply to this. As an admin who has to deal with a lot of questions/gripes from my guild mates, I'd appreciate something concrete to pass on.
Are any of these changes going to be made? If so, when? I believe Aaron mentioned a forum update a looong time ago.
