Okies, so I have the code written out...but im really not sure how I would implment this...

The Admin guide doesn't tell you how to...only says you can use CSS, do I upload the files and images?

Does anyone know where I could find step by step directions on creating a side scrolling menu for my Guildportal website?

Is this what you were looking for? --> my Connectus Interruptus site

If so, I added the code to the Banner Area of the CSS.

Steps:

1.  Create the code & graphics
2.  Upload graphics to a hosting site
3.  From your GuildPortal page, click on the Control Panel link at the top of the page
4.  Click on the Styles & Colors link in the upper-left corner
5.  Click on the Banner Area link
6.  Paste in your code
7.  Click/Checkmark the Enabled checkbox
8.  Click on the Save button

Hope that helps.

In looking at your site, I noticed that I forgot to mention one thing.  The sliding/scrolling menu overlaps the content boxes.

The way I fixed that was to use the following code in the CSS:

FORM
{
BORDER-RIGHT: medium none;
PADDING-RIGHT: 0px;
BORDER-TOP: medium none;
PADDING-LEFT: 175px;
FONT-SIZE: 9pt;
FONT-FAMILY: Verdana;
PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px;
MARGIN: 0px;
BORDER-LEFT: medium none;
PADDING-TOP: 0px;
BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none;
FONT-FAMILY: Verdana
}

The "PADDING-LEFT: 175px;" was what did the job.

Also, in order to help keep from having to use a horizontal scroll bar, I decided not to add any content boxes to the "Left" pane of the site -- i.e. all content boxes are in the Center or Right panes.

Enjoy!

I am presuming you are referring to the scrolling menu on the Connectus Interruptus test site.

I used a program called Menu Maker from a great company called Xara -- http://www.xara.com/ to create the menu.  It created the buttons, all I did was select the font and the two colors.  The program's template that I chose to use did all the rest.  The program also produced the JavaScript code needed to reconstruct the menu.

If you are instead referring to the Heroes Inc production site buttons, I used another program from Xara called Xara Xtreme to create the graphics.  That program was the one that installed the font that I ended up using for both site's graphics.

Enjoy!

I made a navigation bar with Xara.
I have no idea how to write CSS codes but would like to add the bar to my website - Reckless Will
So I can perhaps do away with the tab bar style.

So basically the step by step process listed above didn't really help me at all. I need step by step instructions for someone who is a complete newbie with CSS if possible.

Thanks.

Another option I was thinking of was - Can I put a nice navigation bar into my banner image, one that is still interactive such as when you click on a selection it highlights? If so how can I do that.

AND

If all of that is too much trouble for me, can I just add the xara naviation bar to a new content box somehow?

Lure:

I used Xara Menu Maker -- not Xara Xtreme -- to create the menu/graphics.  It has a feature when you save/export the graphics to also create the JavaScript file (filename is name_of_graphics_file.js -- which is saved in the same directory as the individual pieces of the menu/graphics).  Xara Xtreme doesn't have this feature.

Supposing you used Xara Menu Maker, use the steps I outlined above -- you will need a hosting site for the graphics (we use PhotoBucket -- http://www.photobucket.com/).  The way I got the JavaScript code into the site was to open the .JS file created by Menu Maker (in Notepad) and select all, copy it to the Windows clipbaord & paste it into the Banner Area custom template code box/field (see my above instructions for how to get to this field in GuildPortal).

If you didn't use a program that creates the JavaScript file, then you would have to know JavaScript in order to wrestle the code to do this.

If you need the code to create the menu & make it scroll, I could email it to you (don't know if Aaron wants that kind of stuff posted here).
