Could someone please explain to me how I can add a table of contents to the top of a forum or information section that will let you jump to a particular topic? I didn't think this was possible until I saw Mottie's post here:

Hi Sarrita!!

This table of contents is really just a bunch of links that use "anchors". An anchor is basically an HTML link "<a id="xx"></a>", but with an ID instead of an URL inside.

Here is a basic outline of where to add anchors, so your links know where to jump.
(Anchor Top)
(Index)
---------------
(Anchor #1)
[TITLE1]
 Text for title 1

(jump to top)
---------------
(Anchor #2)
[Title2]
 Text for title 2

(jump to top)
---------------
(Anchor #3)
[Title3]
 Text for title 3

(jump to top)
---------------
Now to define what each anchor stands for:
(Anchor_Top)
 <a id="top"></a>
 (Index)  <a href="#anchor1">Title1</a> | <a href="#anchor2">Title2</a> | <a href="#anchor3">Title3</a>
 (Anchor #1) <a id="anchor1"></a>
 (Anchor #2)  <a id="anchor2"></a>
 (Anchor #3)  <a id="anchor3"></a>
 (jump to top)  <a href="#top">[top]</a>

And here it is all put together:
<a id="top"></a>
<a href="#anchor1">Title1</a> | <a href="#anchor2">Title2</a> | <a href="#anchor3">Title3</a>

<hr>
<a id="anchor1"></a>
Title 1
This is the text for title 1

<a href="#top">[top]</a>
<hr>
<a id="anchor2"></a>
Title 2
This is the text for title 2

<a href="#top">[top]</a>
<hr>
<a id="anchor3"></a>
Title 3
This is the text for title 3

<a href="#top">[top]</a>
Notes:
  • To link to an anchor, your URL must have a "#" in front!
    (e.g. the "top" anchor can only be linked to with an href="#top")
  • When you use this for your site, there is no need to keep the same IDnames as I did here. I personally name the anchor to match the title, but put achor here to reduce the confusion.
  • The "|" used in the index is usually found on the keyboard above the enter key. You need to press "Shift-\" to get it.
  • I added a horizontal line <hr> between each Title as a personal perference.
