Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to
this post
.

Becoming Adept!
hey there.. Ok, where to start. Well, i read just about every post i could find from Mottie and its just not clicking for me. I understand just about everything he's mentioned But, i just don't understand where to start.
I know its something silly and from there its skys the limit but until them i cant find where to go when its time to edit or paste the Code thats written on the forums.
Maybe i need to step away from it all for a few days because the last 4 days have been information overload.
I'm assuming that everything is done under " Advanced Style Settings"? then "Custom Stylesheet"? and then you haev these 2 drop downs called "Insert class" and "insert attribute"
then if that is the right place, how do i know which is which and what is what?
Its really hard for me to post on these forums because im stubborn and have to do it myself but this one im just lost

Awww *passes you a box of cookies* you sound like you can use these.
I know you said you've read through all of Mottie's forums posts here, but sadly this forum is really really unorganized and it is quite overwhelming trying to sift though everything to find the exact information you seek!
To ease your mind, you should really start out on
Mottie's Test Site
where he has everything organized in a much more friendly "first time user" set up.
The very first link he has under Basic has the answers that you seek.
Don't worry about the drop downs on the CSS, it's mostly a lot of cutting and pasting code from one place to where you want/need them on your site.
But Mottie will explain it so much more better on his awesome site!

Yep!
Depending on what it is you are adding to your site, your code may have to be placed in one or several areas under the Advanced Style Settings:
Custom Stylesheet
Banner Area
Content Containers: Left Center Right
Footer
Mottie is really awesome in his instructions telling you exactly where a sequence of code needs to go.

Hey eq2dom
From what I'm reading it seems you don't understand where to add the code you are finding. Well it's really all about how you want to design your site - which boxes go where and in what order. This is all done through the Control Panel.
Control Panel > Site Pages > Now pick a tab to work on (like "Home")
Once you get to this point you can do two things:
ADD NEW CONTENT:
Look for the content box at the top of the page titled "Add New Content"
Title: Choose a title for the box
Type: select a type from the list, the most common type I use is "Free Form Text/HTML"
Zone: This is where the box will end up on this page - Left side, Center or Right side
Order: 0 = top of the column. As the number increases it goes under the lower number. I believe two boxes with the same number sort by which was there first.
Click "Add" to add the content box, then follow the instructions below to modify this new box.
MODIFY CONTENT:
You will see three columns of boxes below the "Add New Content" box - here is an example of one:
The top of the column shows which zone it's in (Right Zone in this example)
"Search Box" is the title of the box
"Type" shows that's it's of the free form text/HTML type
"Display Order:0" means it's at the top of the column
Use "Edit Content" to modify what's inside the box... this is how you add HTML/code into a content box. Make sure you are in HTML mode (
) when you are adding HTML and/or code.
"Display Options" allows you to change the content box title, location (left, center or right) and/or the order (0=top of the page, 9 (or higher) = bottom of the page).
"Delete Content" removes the entire box.
Now you can repeat these steps for each page on your site.
