Hey I have a question and option for you... The original view you posted shows the main character, followed by all the alts, for an individual member.  I'm looking at the code now, and we have two ways we can do it. 

The first, the one that would produce the results that you've got in the sample, is going to take some serious time.  It's OK, can do if it's what's really wanted.

The second would be characters listed as they are now, with alternates listed along with all the other characters.  The difference would be some kind of visual notification (like - Alternate after the name).  The reason I'm presenting this option isn't just because it'd be insanely easier, but also because I'm wondering whether the more common workflow would be people looking up alternates the same way they do primaries -- by alphabetical order of character name.

I think some kind of grouping by main would be very helpful. One example is that it would determine the maximum number of a particular class that could actually be online at any given time. You might have five cleric mains and eight cleric alts in a guild, for example (a total of thirteen, for those even worse at math than I am). But two of those alts could be on the same account as another cleric. So the real total that could be on at once would be eleven.

Is that data useful in a real-world scenario? Probably not, now that I'm looking at the scenario in front of me. But still...

Another way the grouping would come in handy might be to show, at a glance, how many characters within a certain level range belong to a particular member. When putting a raid together, it might be helpful to know that MachoDude, a 62 warrior, also has a 59 shaman. If we have a shortage of slowers or buffers, we might ask him to bring the shaman instead of the warrior for that raid.

As the size of the guild increases, this information will be all the more useful, since after a point it starts getting tricky remembering who is an alt of whom. (Between Xev and Maelin, for example, I have a total of something like twelve toons now. It's getting so I don't even remember which alts are mine.)

Wiltan Ryouki- you can already sort the roster by the level column.  I know that this doesn't show that both characters belong to the same player, however, which brings me to Aaron's post:

We currently use a graphic which shows that the character is an alternate.  It is entered as an award using the “Manage Medals” link on the control panel.  It's easy to scan down the roster and see which character is an alternate, though I do have to click on the character's name to see which other characters.  Anyway, this may indeed be a much simpler, if less satisfying solution.  I suggest that guild leaders use it, at least for the time being.

One other thing.  I've asked Aaron for another roster view which would similar to what is seen when you select “Site Members” on the control panel.  It would show login name, characters of that player, last on and participation.  I want the view so that my officers can keep up with activity level of members without having super admin access.  With this view, they'll be able to easily see when a member hasn't been online in awhile or hasn't posted much.

Magelo is a bot type thingey that goes into Everquest and grabs a bunch of info on people's characters.  They can then use the info generated from it to make their “paper dolls” public.  If you notice, most of the EQ people around here have similar flash signatures with links to their Magelo profiles.

Other games have different bots that work much the same way, thottbot for WoW for instance.

There is a place in the profile for you to list a link to your character's Magelo Profile.  Where I put "Magelo" in my example would actually be a clickable link to that profile, as it is in the current roster.

I realize it has been quite a while since I checked on this thread but I'm curious to find out whatever happened with this update.
