Something that will let us upload files, for others to download (ieUIs, Programs, etc...). Also something that could let us (me)catergorize that.

You need webspace to store files for download.  It's very basic... and most web service providers, won't let you link their login scripts to others so you will have to upload to your space threw what ever means they allow.  Most allow basic FTP.  So, the only thing  I can see of benifit (if even this) is for GP to provide a script box where you put in your FTP site URL and Login info for others to upload to.  This is very dangerous though, and you don't have control of who is uploading what to your webspace.  So I wouldn't recommend it.

Best bet, upload any files yourself to your webspace.

Of course, at some point if GP was to offer webspace to it's members, then they could control it anyway they wish.  But with the number of guilds on GP they would need a large bank of servers to accomodate this.  Not really cost effective for this type of community.

That's the single reason that I wanted to run GP out of our basement at one point (don't worry, the feeling passed).  I was getting quotes on file servers and estimated bandwidth from our managed hosting provider and I wanted to ask, "How do you sleep at night??!"  =)

Of course, at some point if GP was to offer webspace to it's members, then they could control it anyway they wish.  But with the number of guilds on GP they would need a large bank of servers to accomodate this.  Not really cost effective for this type of community.

With lots and lots of pills I am sure of it. Hehe I once looked into the price of "commercial grade" (some call it a business package) webspace and bandwidth capacity. I looked screamed and I ran away.
