I notice that probably about 30% of the time when I fire up the game for the first time that day I get a download of about 200-300MB, but there's no patch notes or info in the launcher to say they've added anything. Just wondered if you all get this too or is my game client getting flakey???

It also occured to me that I've never once seen Tyria go down for scheduled maintenance! Which is kind of cool.

I get updates like that aswell. Haven't really looked into what is updated when it happens, but these days it's probably been alot about the Halloween event stuff going in/out.

Currently playing
Starbound & X3:Albion Prelude

Trying out some blogging about Starbound on Tumblr.

I often get a small download when I fire up the game too, but nowhere near the numbers you mention. They do add sneaky patches of events and such they do not mention and is just there to suddenly stumble into, but not every day and not of that size. Maybe try to reinstall, make sure everything is pointing to the right locations or some such. Could be that some refrences makes the launcher think you are missing a set of files.

I think it is due to the way they designed the game. It is not identical to the first Guild Wars, but close. And to think that the original Guild Wars had less downtown in 5 years than a normal mmo has in a single month. They made it so they can patch and test the game while people are still playing. Small fixes are deployed and added whenever a player logs out, and big patches are added and they kick everyone out for a few minutes while they point the clients towards the new build(That they already have ready and do not need 8 hours to set up).  So do not expect to ever see Tyria go down, though accidents do happen, it will not be on a regular basis.

It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. But give him a question and he'll look for his own answers.”

Yea, they dont seem to take the servers down for scheduled maintence, the things you're downloading are normal hotfixes. There have been a lot more recently as they updated the haloween event content (5 for that one alone).
