Hi there

I have sent numerous tickets to GP about being able to move the recent posts and forum search bar to the top of the page. 99% of my guild members do not even know that these exist on our site!

Not having gotten anywhere with tickets, I was hoping you might be able to provide some script to do this

There is a widget for the recent topics, but it is very chunky and doesnt use space very well, so pretty much looks horrible. The widget for forum search doesnt work on the forums page.

Basically, i would like to have a a recent topics and forums search box just above the actual forums, but without taking up too much space/looking chunky. It should just fit in with the rest of it. I would love it if it looked just like it does when it is at the bottom of the page, but moved up to the top! This is what i asked GP to do/give the option for, but it doesnt look like they have done this yet.

I assume the simplest would be to add some script to move the bottom bit to the top, but anything is worth trying

thanks in advance!

Hi Lakshmii!

Add this code to a Free Form Text/HTML widget on the same page as your forum and it should do the trick
<script>
$(function(){
 var fv = $('div[id*=_ForumView]');
 if (fv.length){
  $('div[id*=_pnlForumSearch], div[id*=_pnlMostRecent]').prependTo(fv);
  fv.find('a[href*=ListRss], a[title*="Edit admin"]').parent().appendTo(fv);
 }
});
</script>
This was also posted in the admin forums for prosperity

yay! it worked, thanks

For some reason 2 of the current recent posts are showing some weird info, looks a little like script stuff, but unless it continues with future recent posts i wont worry about it

So I noticed that GP has a forum search function that is separate from the one built into the forum.

I ws wondering if it is possible to remove the search/recent posts section built into the forum. The reason being, I tried to ad both the separate search and Stand-Alone Posts section to my forums page, t I got an error about there already having those functions.

I would like to use these over the built in because I can actually sort the posts by topic rather than post and dont have 300000000000 repeated topics, making it much easier to find new topics. Combine this with the fact that sub-forums icons still dont update correctly and browsing forums can get tedious.

Hi Dethmaul!

This code will hide the recent posts and still move the search to the top. Then you can just add the separate recent post widget.
<script>
$(function(){

 var fv = $('div[id*=_ForumView]');
 if (fv.length){
  $('div[id*=_pnlForumSearch]').prependTo(fv);
  $('div[id*=_pnlMostRecent]').hide();
  fv.find('a[href*=ListRss], a[title*="Edit admin"]').parent().appendTo(fv);
 }
});
</script>
There really isn't anything I can do about the search widget. It's been disabled completely.

When I tried that, this is what I get

Posts are not being listed in this widget because this page already has a Forums widget on it, which already has a "Most Recent" listing of posts.

That error message is in the Stand-Alone Recents Posts widget.

I think that even though the built in Most Recent is hidden from view, it is still being recognized, thus disallowing the Stand Alone Widget to run.

You haven't perchance found a way to group topics in the Most Recent like you did on the Stand Alone have you, that would be just as effective

Hi Dethmaul, I might be able to grab the recent posts list from another page, but that just seems kind of silly... it might just be better to submit a ticket and get GP to make the recent posts the same for both. Is the search different?

To be honest I haven't really looked at the search feature much, as most of my people don't really use it. They are more concerned with getting to the new posts.

Did GP change something?

Forums topics are once again at the bottom of page, and my hidden widget box is not hidden...

Hi Dethmaul!

It seems the following script is causing errors and breaking everything else on the page. I don't think it's necessary anymore, so just remove it:
<script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() {  $("a").each(function() {   if ($(this).attr("target").match("_commentWindow")) { makePopupWindow($(this),'_commentWindow',600,300); }  });  $(document).bind('reveal.facebox', function() {   $("#facebox").find("a").each(function() {    if ($(this).attr("target").match("_commentWindow")) { makePopupWindow($(this),'_commentWindow',600,300); }   });  });  function makePopupWindow (linkEl,pName,pWidth,pHeight) {   var temp = "toolbar=0,status=0,width=" + pWidth + ",height=" + pHeight;   linkEl.click (function(){    var w = window.open (linkEl.attr("href"),pName,temp);    w.focus();    return false;   });  } }); </script>
