Hi Mottie,

I have been working on a guild application form, since  copy-pasting by appliers to the guild is often messy and incomplete. I would like the result of that form to be posted as a forum post by the applier and I just can't get that done. The post code i am not familar with. Can u shine your light on it please? This is what I have up to now:

Maybe others can use this too

Thank you and there's no hurry and if you don't have the time it's ok too.
Our guild site is http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=151548&TabID=1285909

Regards,

Hi Enniewan!

Umm, ok I don't understand what you are asking. When I applied to your guild previously, I saw the form and questions there. You can set up that form to post to your forums. The way GuildPortal is set up you can't really add forms to a free form widget, mostly because the entire page is already a form, so you can't put a form inside another form.

Another option would be to use something like Wufoo forms to make a nice application form, but sadly there is no way to make it post to your forums - it is an external form service. So you can use that site to keep track of applicants, but then they would have to apply on the site as well as in that form.

If you need something specific not available in the standard GuildPortal form, I'm afraid you'll have to submit a feature request with GuildPortal since even the standard application form is completely separate from the web pages and there is no way to style it or add extra scripts.

Hi Mottie,

I really have to start explaining better.

There's two kinds of registrations: One as a user of Guildportal (access to the site) and one as an ingame member of the guild. In order to be able to make an application to the guild membership (in the recruitment forum) a person needs to have registered with Guildportal. Once you have registered with Guildportal you can post in any public forum of any site that is hosted by Guildportal. My request on your site is an example. I am not a member here but registered with Guildportal. The questions you saw to register for access to our site are meant for a wider public than guild members. People can also join as an associate individual with us without being a member ingame.

Furthermore an application to a guild to become a member ingame must be able to be viewed by members, officers and class leaders, so they can comment, answer and decide. They need to be able to read the other reactions too. The applications needs to be visible for everybody otherwise people start wondering what happened to their application and what the status is. See as an example the reactions (recently active topics) of applicants in this forum, that uses the site registration form for a guild application: http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=254845&TabID=2142170&ForumID=1197301. The form you mentioned is only viewable by a system admin.

Most WoW guilds at Guildportal use a sticky in the recruitment section that needs to be copied and pasted into a new post or quoted and title adjusted. Ours is here: http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=151548&ForumID=1289025&TabID=1945728&Replies=0&TopicID=7348250
Another example: http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?ForumID=709270&PostCount=2560&GuildID=108397&TabID=926558#forums

The results are messy and often unreadable and/or incomplete. Not an advertisement to the guild. So I use my admin powers to make them a bit more presentable. With the expansion of Wrath of the Lich King coming to an end we were not so peculiar any more and allowed a lot of new members without the proper application. But now with Cataclysm on the doorstep we need to be strict again. So I was looking into the possibility of having an application form that would generate a better result.

Guild Hosting kind of offers that feature, see example here: http://www.red-society.net/index.php?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=addNew&Itemid=127
and scroll down to see applicants here: http://www.red-society.net/index.php?option=com_sobi2&Itemid=118
You need to register to see the comments, like with Guildportal.
So does Guildomatic: http://pulseofvashj.guildomatic.com/guild_application/apply
Guildlaunch uses a combination of registration to the site and guild apply: https://www.guildlaunch.com/guild/recruiting/app_account.php?type=app&gid=78232
I didn't check all alternative guild hosting possibilities.

I just like to have that possibility with Guildportal.
So I made a concept form of which I posted the code in my previous posting. It can be seen on our site on the test page to which you have access. I would like to have a submit button there that upon clicking generates a new post in our recruitment forum by name of the applicant and a change of screen that says that the application has been submitted and can be viewed for comments in the forum. That is where I asked for your help as I consider you a wizard. I really think others would like this too.

Hope you see what I mean. Thanks for looking into it.

Hi Enniewan!

I would love to be able to provide an application form like this but I think it would be best to have GuildPortal add this feature. I tried something similar before, but I ran into site security issues where it wouldn't let me do it... it's been a while since I attempted this sort of thing, but I doubt anything has changed.

Anyway, sorry but I don't think it would be possible for me. =(

This is the EXACT same thing I am trying to accomplish as well. I would like people to be able to sign up on our website easily (without all the join GUILD questions) and then I would like to have a beautiful form like this one under a recruitment section that will post the answers/form to a new post in the recruit forum.

Hi, I found the solution in the GuildPortal answer that an administrator can opt for the answers of the guild application to be posted in the recruitment forum. So I extended the number of questions, made a test apply and it works satisfactory. The only thing is that as the questions are in bold and the answers in normal text the difference is still not so clear between them, so it would be nice if the questions could be underlined or in a different color. Check it out on our site if you want to get an impression. The form that has to be filled out is similar to the one that you gave as an example. Hope you find this to your liking too.

Hi Enniewan!

Well I can help you with this part! Bunny Dance

Add this to your custom CSS (Control Panel > Custom HTML & Script > Custom CSS > CSS Additions to Standard) - The class "tBold" is already bold, so you can add any additional styles you want.
.tBold {
  color: #ffcc00;
  text-decoration: underline; /* optional */
}

Wow I feel a little dense, I did not see that the "app to site" already was separate from the "app to guild" (already being a member of both made it less obvious >< ). I enabled the forum posting as well, and that little code to help set the questions apart from the answers worked very well. Thank you Mottie!
