I've trauled everywhere looking for a decent way of getting a message or popup to my fellow guildies about who's birthday it is today.

We tried calendar events, but really, thats not jumping out at me. Also its interfering with raid stuff.

Site anouncements, tried, but again, didnt really work as its only raid calendar based as far as i can tell.

Growl was an option, but since i have to change it every time, it becomes pointless when i need reminding, cant seem to automate this (as far as i can tell).

Is there another way of using the site, to automate the process somewhat, by poping up a info box when a birthday comes up.

I dont really want to integrate a google calendar as it looks horrible, and still doesnt really "jump" out at me as a reminder.

Thoughts?

Anyone found a solution to display birthday reminders?

Hi Baxtoor!

Would an image that pops up on a particular date work? I originally wrote this code to change the banner for a particular day or holiday, but really it can be used inside a Free Form Text/HTML widget and include a caption. Check it out and if it'll work for you. Either way, I'll update the post so you can include a comment.

Hi

Is there no way to add some code or something that automates this, based on data given when signing up to the site? From what i understand, the above linked code still requires an admin to update the info with dates - so as people leave guilds and new people join guilds, someone still has to remember to update the code.

Although I suppose one would have to work out where the birthdate data comes from - perhaps if it is added as a question during the signing up process? Or maybe, with a mod - where, the first time a member logs onto the site after the mod is implemented on that site, they are prompted to enter their birthday (just day and month) and from then on, while the user has access to the site above a certain level (for my site that would be member; dont know what others would use; maybe this could be configurable), their birthay is logged in the mod and either automatically creates an event in the calendar or automatically announces in the news feed or its own stand alone box or something when the birthday date comes around.

I have sent a request to GP about something like this, but that was months ago and I've not had a response about it nor seen anything hinting at this being implemented.

Hi Lakshmii!

I wish there was an easier way. I don't know of a way to save data to the site, so there isn't an easy way to save this information. It might not be a good idea to allow all guild members to freely modify this information either, in case someone gets mad and destroys things before rage quitting.

Maybe if there was some place where a member could enter their birthday, say in the profile, that was visible to everyone, then that could be pulled from there using the roster as a list - but even this would be slow compared to what GP could implement. Unless there was a user profile feed or something.

Thanks for the response - oh well, it was worth a thought anyway

I meant that members just enter their birth date - they cant change anything else. Once they are prompted to enter their birth date and they have done so, then they can do nothing else with it.

But yeh, I'll try send another feature request to GP then
