Red Arrows Update
Apr 20, 10 3:40 PM
Presently the captain of the Guard thrust aside the curtain. 'A man is here, lord,' he said, 'an errand-rider of Gondor. He wishes to come before you at once.'
'Let him come!' said Theoden.
A tall man entered, and Merry choked back a cry; for a moment it seemed to him that Boromir was alive again and had returned. Then he saw that it was not so; the man was a stranger, though as like to Boromir as if he were one of his kin, tall and grey-eyed and proud. He was clad as a rider with a cloak of dark green ovr a coat of fine mail; on the front of his helm was wrought a small silver star. In his hand he bore a single arrow, black-feathered and barbed with steel, but the point was painted red.
He sank on one knee and presented the arrow to Theoden. 'Hail, Lord of the Rohirrim, friend of Gondor!' he said. 'Hirgon I am, errand-rider of Denethor, who bring you this token of war. Gondor is in great need. Often the Rohirrim have aided us, but now the Lord Denethor asks for all your strength and all your speed, lest Gondor fall at last.'
'The Red Arrow!' said Theoden, holding it, as one who receives a summons long expected and yet dreadful when it comes. His hand trembled. 'The Red Arrow has not been seen in the Mark in all my years! Has it indeed come to that?'
No shouts have been added yet.
Idle Monitor OFF
, May 18, 10 9:55 PM.
I came to my mailbox this morning to find that Guildportal has something called an "Idle Monitor," which can be set to automatically kick people from your site membership if they have not visited in X many days. This was enabled for the Red Arrows site and set to 30 days. Four people had been kicked for not visiting.
I have never had a policy of removing people from the site membership, though I did, in the past, change their status. For a long time we had to keep the online roster in LotRO and our offline roster here, on guildportal, in sync. That took a lot of work and it was a real hassle. Now Guildportal's auto-interfacing feature means when you click on "Roster" you get an accurate roster of who is in the guild in game, making that laborious chore no longer necessary.
There's no reason to remove people from this site's membership. Many may not be Arrows, but they are interested parties who would like to read more of the site or get GP mail.
I apologize to everyone who has been kicked from the guildportal site, though likely most of you will never return. I have disabled the idle monitor. With explosives.
Red Arrows Update
, Apr 20, 10 3:40 PM.
Greetings to those newly visiting the Red Arrows, as well as to all who are returning. This is a general update on recent developments with the kinship and site.
I returned to the game a few weeks ago, and Imraheth has been seen in Moria, in Lothlorien, and in Bree. I spoke with the player who had been keeping the kinship's name alive, and he graciously transferred leadership back to me. I also spoke with Galthien's player, who had Admin access to this site, and he graciously returned that access to me as well. Last year, Agrin's player created a second guildportal site for "The Red Arrows," and I have tried to contact him, to no avail. Fortunately, guildportal's admins were able to help me out, so that this site now interfaces directly with the LotRO servers (rather than Agrin's site doing that). I hated to force any changes to Agrin's site without his permission, but keeping the guildportal roster and the in-game roster synched up was a major time sink in the old days, and now it all happens automatically, which is a good thing.
Much work remains to be done on this site and with the kinship in game, but the tools have all been returned to me and I look forward to more roleplay in the game. If you are visiting the kinship's site for the first time, I encourage you to mail me -- Imraheth -- in game or through guildportal so we can arrange for a face-to-face meeting. Much of the information on this site is outdated and very old; potentially more confusing than helpful. Check out our kinship page on the Lorebook for background information on the kinship but, again, any list of members and officers which you see there is woefully out of date.
If you are a former member of the kinship, I am reconciling the original kinship with the "order of knights" which it became after I left. Details on that reconciliation will be found here, but the short version is that the Red Arrows will once again be an order of messengers and errand-riders, not knights. I mean no disrespect to those players who participated in the Arrows' experiments with knighthood, I have simply restored the kinship to its original principles.
I look forward to continuing to chat and meet with old friends and new. Look me up in game or write to me directly.
